One of the worst times of the year is when all the kids get sick and start coming down with a cold or a flu. Here are some tips to help prevent the flu or cold coming into your house.
#1. First I would make sure the kids drink plenty of water, or natural juices that help with a person's needed vitamins, etc. Soda and several other drinks break down the immune system and it is alot easier for your child to get sick after having soda. Sugar and carbonation seem to effect this more than most realize.
#2. The second thing I would do is make sure your children eat plenty of veggies and fruit. The better they eat the less likely they are to get sick. Remember all the vitamins and minerals that are in their fruits and veggies.
#3. I would also make it mandatory for a child to wash their hands regularly. Like in the morning, before coming to the table to eat, after shaking someone's hand, playing outside, coming in from school, and before touching any food, anytime they might have been exposed to germs.
#4. I would also make sure they start having some vitamins daily. Adding the iron and calcium daily from vitamins helps. As many times as they are allowed each day. And I recommend using herbal remedies when possible.
#5. Next would be to start cleaning the house and wiping things down that are touched on a regular basis like doorknobs, sinks, handles, etc. with a disinfectant. I would also disinfect any surfaces that are used throughout the day for eating, playing, etc., like table tops, chairs, and desks.
#6. I would make sure to the best of my ability that my children do not play with other kids that are currently sick or that get sick very easy. It may not sound nice, but we need to remember how easily the germs spread and try to protect our children when we can.
#7. Next would be to lay down the rule that everyone is to get plenty of good clean outside air. Isolating the sick child get sick often helps, but even they can benefit from some fresh air.
#8. I try to have anyone who is feeling sick even in the least bit to inform me, and then adjust their diet and fluid intake properly.
#9. Children need to start using their own cups and allow no sharing of drinks or food at all. Then if one is getting sick we can prevent the spread of the germs from them and hopefully no one else will get sick.
#10. Having plenty of hand sanitizer and/or wipes on hand is a great suggestion. They make it quick and easy to clean hands or wipe germy items down.
